Science

Even if all our scientific questions are answered, our  problem is still not touched at all.
— Ludwig Wittgenstein

The shift to Paradigm-A (P-A) requires the redefinition of reality itself as the old reality is transcended and old beliefs, attitudes and values are reconfigured to fit the new narrative. This process is very challenging and only those comfortable with embracing life on the frontier of consciousness can embrace this process. “Creative minorities are active agents that transform old, outdated philosophical ‘truths’ into new, life-sustaining cultural beliefs.”[i]

Mathematics

The absolute mathematical laws of the past will be supplemented with concepts related to fractal geometry and chaos theory. “Fractal geometry emphasizes that the observable physical universe is derived from the integration and interconnectivity of all of its parts. Instead of invoking competition as a means of survival, the new view of nature is one driven by cooperation among species living in harmony with their physical environment. We must own that every human being counts, for each is a member of a single organism. When we war, we are warring against ourselves.”[ii]

Physics

The work of Einstein, Planck and Heisenberg in quantum mechanics “revealed that the universe is not an assembly of physical parts as suggested by Newtonian physics but is derived from a holistic entanglement of immaterial energy waves. Quantum mechanics shockingly reveals that there is no true ‘physicality’ in the universe; atoms are made of focused vortices of energy—miniature tornados that are constantly popping into and out of existence. Atoms as energy fields interact with the full spectrum of invisible energy fields that comprise the universe, intimately entangled with one another and the field in which they are immersed.”[iii]

“A fundamental conclusion of the new physics also acknowledges that the ‘observer creates the reality.’ As observers, we are personally involved with the creation of our own reality! Physicists are being forced to admit that the universe is a ‘mental’ construction. Pioneering physicist Sir James Jeans wrote: ‘The stream of knowledge is heading toward a non-mechanical reality; the universe begins to look more like a great thought than like a great machine. We must learn that our beliefs, perceptions, and attitudes about the world create the world.’ Or as physicist professor R. C. Henry [no relation to the author] says, ‘The universe is immaterial—mentally and spiritually.’”[iv]

Chemistry

The mind-body connection becomes the focus of modern chemistry. “The body is structurally derived from over a hundred thousand different protein molecules. Proteins change shape in response to signals—harmonic vibrations in the field. The energy-protein interface is the junction of the mind-body connection. Via a process called electro-conformational coupling, protein behaviors can be influenced by neural vibrational fields derived from conscious processes.”[v]

Biology

Biology in P-A adds a new depth beyond DNA called “epigenetics.” “Epigenetics is a newly recognized second genetic code that controls the activity and programming of an organism’s DNA while epigenetics recognizes that our perceptions of the environment, including our consciousness, actively control our genes. Through epigenetic mechanisms, applied consciousness can be used to shape our biology and makes us ‘masters’ of our own lives.”[vi] In other words, epigenetics explains the mechanism behind the principle that we control our own reality.

Psychology

“Rather than being ‘programmed’ by our genes, our lives are controlled by our perceptions of life experiences!” Here is where P-A is critically important because our perceptions are also related to what we expect to perceive. The context that we believe we are contained in has a profound effect on what we will experience. It is important that our story about who and where we are is as close to Simple Reality as we can make it. The current dominant worldview which we call scientific materialism varies substantially from what a fully conscious person perceives and experiences.

“Energy psychology directly impacts subconscious programming rather than trying to manipulate genetics, physiology, and behavior. This new understanding will also help to recognize the power that fundamental perceptions have on programming the subconscious mind.”[vii]

Since much of human behavior today is influenced by factors beyond the awareness of most individuals, we have very little understanding of why human beings behave the way they do. Adding the insights of energy psychology to an awareness of the influences of the shadow, the collective unconscious, the false-self survival strategy and the personal unconscious will transform our ability to understand and address the causes of human dysfunction and suffering.

No-Thingness: Field and Form

The distinction between field and form provides the essential foundation of the new science and indeed the whole of P-A. Form can be called an illusion because it is ephemeral and without “absolute” existence. All form emerges from the field of energy that contains infinite possibilities of undifferentiated matter. “The physical character of atoms, proteins, cells, and people are controlled by immaterial energies that collectively form that field.”[viii]  This statement expresses a cosmology that can be found in the Hindu worldview of 5,000 years ago. The field has also been called the Implicate Order or in Sanskrit, the Akashic or “radiant” space.

If we are to create a sustainable community, humanity must realize that unconsciousness—the basis for our self-destructive behavior—can only be transcended by the realization that all form is interrelated, interdependent, and impermanent. The false self is an illusion as are all the objects of craving and aversion related to the seeking of material security, pleasure and power. Our tendency to identify with our afflictive emotions, our thoughts, and our bodily sensations inevitably leads to an unsatisfactory existence. Redefining the disciplines of science is part of the process of creating a more viable worldview—a sustainable and satisfactory experience of life.

Basic Glossary

Reductionism—the process of taking matter apart and studying its bits and pieces.

Determinism—the belief that with knowledge of something’s parts, we can predict its behavior.

Noetic science—based upon holism, the belief that an understanding of nature and the human experience requires that we transcend the parts to see the whole.

Materialism and reductionism engender the idea that humans are disconnected from and are above nature.

Summary

In summary, the emerging disciplines of the new science will lead us into a radically transformed worldview which we have labeled Simple Reality. However, intuitive understanding of the so-called new science is ancient and can be found expressed in the language of the world’s sacred texts, world mythology and the writing of mystics. Only the way the new science is conceived and formulated is new—the inner wisdom has always been felt in the heart of the awakened mystic.
