Truth #43 – Which Reality: Absolute and Relative

The history of our species on this planet can be puzzling to say the least. Do we have agency or free will? Can we take action to produce an effect of our own choosing? Or is our destiny a predetermined course of events, an unfolding story that the Creator in charge wishes to fulfill? Some have tried to answer these questions, but have they been answered consciously or with mindful consideration? It doesn’t look like it given the havoc we create every day. We behave as if we are rats lost in a maze.

Let’s give it another try. The human experience unfolds in one of two contexts: the Absolute or the relative. We can choose which narrative we want to inhabit, the perfect one or the imperfect one. As that description implies, the Absolute is deterministic; in the relative we exercise free will. But do we actually have free will if we are not aware that we have a choice of worldviews?

In other words, are we consciously benefiting from living in the perfection of the context of Oneness, if we are unaware that we are, in fact, contained therein? On the other hand, are we really experiencing the pain and suffering that seems to be our lot, if we are ultimately going to wake up and realize that we were living in the nightmare that Thoreau glimpsed when he labeled us “sleepwalkers?”

We are not engaging in a metaphysical/philosophical discussion here but, in fact, have penetrated to the heart of Reality. If your intuition is pulling you in this direction, you might want to pursue the principles that govern the structure of human consciousness a bit further. Fortunately for all of us, Reality is both logical and obvious although not readily apparent when we are so mesmerized. We are not dependent on the limited human intellect to realize Where we are, Who we are and Why we are here.

“And people increasingly saw their favorite stars as their proxies and champions. When Phil Robertson, the bayou patriarch of ‘Duck Dynasty,’ was briefly suspended from the reality show in 2013 for homophobic and racist comments, one America saw it as political correctness taking down a beloved star for speaking his mind. Another America—if they had ever heard of ‘Duck Dynasty’ at all—saw a bigot getting what he had coming to him.”[i]
